From July 28th to August 18th, a group of 20 CCB students from 6th to 9th grade were selected for an exchange to France. The Collège IBS of Provence (International Bilingual School of Provence) was the host institution that welcomed these young people to its campus.
The admission process consisted of students applying by sending a video in which they expressed their interest in being part of this enriching adventure. After weeks of teacher evaluations, meetings with parents and French language training, students departed for Aix-en-Provence, a university town in the south of France.
For almost three weeks, the students started their days at 7am to attend their regular classes. After lunch, they had the opportunity to participate in various artistic, sporting or cultural activities according to their preferences, which varied from day to day.
In addition, meetings were organised between all the host residences to participate in traditional French games. Meanwhile, weekends were devoted to longer outings, exploring the city of Marseille or visiting picturesque villages on the south coast of France.
Sofia Knobelsdorf, one of the exchange participants, shared her experience and highlighted the value of this trip.
“I learned a lot not only about French, but also about life in Europe. I was able to have experiences that I had never had before. I feel that this has given me a degree of maturity that I didn’t have before. You learn to live together, which is one of the most challenging aspects, but it is also very rewarding. I recommend it 100%.”
Mariana Nuñez Barrios, from 8b, also shared her thoughts with us. Before the trip, they were prepped with conversational French to enable them to cope in this new culture, so she highlighted the positive impact on their ability to socialise.
“What I enjoyed the most was sharing with people (…) I liked rugby very much, although it is a bit complicated, I found it very fun. The good thing is that the local French people helped you and taught you how to do it. The school was very good, and I learned a lot by talking and interacting with others, I improved my French and my ability to socialise. We were people from different cultures. I thought it was great, because despite our differences in food, expressions and language, the integration was very smooth. There are always so many wonderful people in every part of the world, you can be friends with everyone.
This trip not only enriched their language skills, but has left a lasting impression on the students and inspired them to consider future study opportunities in Europe.
The experience of the French secondary school teachers who accompanied the trip, Luz Marina Ceballos and Erwann Juhel, was also very enriching. For Erwann it was a real dream to be able to take the students to learn and get to know his home country.
“It fills your heart and soul a little bit more. We enjoyed it a lot, we left with a lot of energy and motivation in what we do (…) When you teach a language and that language is your own, you want others to know it in depth. This excites those who have not been able to participate and also encourages other teachers to want to accompany them in future exchanges”.
It is worth noting that the CCB, in its efforts to promote the use of French, was certified last July 2023 as a French-speaking school, a recognition granted by the French Embassy, the Institut Français de Colombie and the Colombian network of French Alliances: “we are pleased to inform you that your school has been selected in the framework of the first call for obtaining the French-speaking School Seal, receive our most sincere congratulations for integrating this network of excellence in the teaching and learning of French in Colombia”, said the official communiqué.

Del 28 de julio al 18 de agosto, un grupo de 20 estudiantes de 6 a 9 grado fueron seleccionados para realizar un intercambio a Francia. El Collège IBS of Provence (International Bilingual School of Provence) fue la institución anfitriona que recibió a estos jóvenes en su campus.
El proceso de admisión consistía en que los estudiantes se postularan enviando un video en el que expresaban sus motivaciones para formar parte de esta enriquecedora aventura. Tras semanas de evaluaciones por parte de profesores, reuniones con los padres y la práctica del idioma francés, los estudiantes partieron hacia Aix en Provence, una ciudad universitaria ubicada al sur de Francia.
Durante casi tres semanas, los estudiantes iniciaban sus días a las 7 de la mañana para asistir a sus clases regulares. Después del almuerzo, tenían la oportunidad de participar en diversas actividades artísticas, deportivas o culturales según sus preferencias, las cuales variaban día a día.
Además, se organizaban encuentros entre todas las residencias anfitrionas para participar en juegos tradicionales franceses. Mientras que, los fines de semana se dedicaban a salidas más largas, explorando la ciudad de Marsella o visitando pintorescos pueblos en la costa sur de Francia.
Sofía Knobelsdorf, una de las participantes del intercambio, compartió su experiencia y destacó el valor de este viaje.
“Aprendí mucho no solo sobre el francés, sino también sobre la vida en Europa. Tuve experiencias que nunca había tenido antes. Siento que esto me ha dado un grado de madurez que no tenía antes. Aprendes a convivir, lo cual es uno de los aspectos más desafiantes, pero también es muy gratificante. Lo recomiendo al 100%”.
Mariana Nuñez Barrios, de 8b, también nos contó sus impresiones. Antes del viaje, los prepararon con diálogos en francés que les permitieran desenvolverse en esta nueva cultura, por lo que destacó el impacto positivo en su habilidad para socializar.
“Lo que más disfruté fue compartir con las personas.(…) El rugby me gustó mucho, aunque es algo complicado, me pareció muy divertido. Lo bueno es que los franceses te ayudaban y enseñaban a hacerlo. El colegio era muy bueno, y aprendí mucho al hablar e interactuar con otros, mejoré mucho mi francés y mi habilidad para socializar. Éramos personas de diferentes culturas. Me parecía chévere, porque a pesar de nuestras diferencias en comidas, expresiones y lengua, fue muy buena la integración. Siempre hay tanta gente buena en cada parte del mundo, puedes ser amigo de todos”.
Este viaje no solo enriqueció sus habilidades lingüísticas, sino que ha dejado una profunda impresión en los estudiantes y los ha inspirado a considerar futuras oportunidades de estudio en Europa.
La experiencia de los profesores de francés de bachillerato que acompañaron el viaje, Luz Marina Ceballos y Erwann Juhel también fue muy enriquecedora. Para Erwann fue un verdadero sueño poder llevar a los estudiantes a aprender y conocer de su país.
“Te llena un poquito más el alma y el corazón. Lo disfrutamos bastante, salimos con bastante energía y motivados en lo que hacemos. (…) Cuando uno enseña un idioma y ese idioma es el suyo propio, uno quiere que otros lo conozcan a profundidad. Esto emociona a los que no han podido participar y también incentiva a que otros profes quieran hacer acompañamiento en futuros intercambios”.
Cabe resaltar que, el CCB, en su esfuerzo por promover el uso del francés, se certificó el pasado julio de 2023 como un colegio francófono, reconocimiento otorgado por la Embajada de Francia, el Institut Français de Colombie y la red colombiana de Alianzas Francesas: “nos complace informarle que su colegio ha sido seleccionado en el marco de la primera convocatoria para la obtención del Sello Colegio Francófono, reciba nuestra más sinceras felicitaciones por integrar esta red de excelencia en la enseñanza y el aprendizaje del francés en Colombia”, decía el comunicado oficial.
