Sofía Durán (11th), shared with CCB News her inspiring experience leading the social project “Construyendo Sonrisas” as part of the Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) activities.
The project, conceived as an end-of-year initiative for Christmas, aims to collect funds for gifts to donate to needy families in the municipalities of Guapi and Timbiquí in Cauca.
Three students were the main driving force behind the project: Jacobo López, María Sofía Duque, and Sofia Durán herself. They worked tirelessly with a team of nine classmates, who spread the word about the project, going from classroom to classroom collecting donations. “Construyendo Sonrisas” also knocked on many doors to obtain the most presents, from both CCB families and entrepreneurs and businesses in Cali.
“Last December, we delivered 1500 toys, and this year we want to give more and build more smiles,” said Sofía, highlighting the team’s aspiration to expand its positive impact.
The transport of toys to the target communities was carried out by air ambulances and airplanes provided by Medical Group, a company that has supported the initiative for several years.
Sofia Durán reflected on the striking disparity between the reality of these communities and her own, saying, “With this project, I realized that I can do more for others. There are many needy people throughout Colombia.”
The experience also left a deep impression by revealing the youth of some mothers in Timbiquí, who, at just 13 years old, came to request gifts for their children as well as for themselves. A shocking revelation about the realities faced by these communities.
Sofía and her CAS classmates emerge from this experience with a strong desire to continue helping those most in need. “I invite the CCB community to analyze their surroundings and work or help a social cause. And in December 2024, know that we will be here and you can support us, through gifts, to continue building smiles,” Sofía said.
In conclusion, CCB is deeply proud of the commitment and initiative of these students, who, through “Construyendo Sonrisas,” have left a lasting mark of solidarity and compassion in the lives of those less fortunate. Their inspiring work encourages us all to reflect on the positive impact we can make in our communities.

Sofía Durán (11°), compartió con CCB News su experiencia inspiradora al liderar el proyecto social “Construyendo Sonrisas” como parte de las actividades de Creatividad, Actividad y Servicio (CAS).
El proyecto, concebido como iniciativa para Navidad, tiene como objetivo recolectar fondos y regalos para donar a familias necesitadas en los municipios de Guapi y Timbiquí en Cauca.
La fuerza detrás del proyecto fue principalmente de tres estudiantes: Jacobo López, María Sofía Duque y la propia Sofía Durán. Trabajaron incansablemente con un equipo de nueve compañeros, quienes difundieron el proyecto de salón en salón, recogiendo donaciones tanto de familias del CCB como de empresarios y emprendedores en Cali.
“El diciembre pasado entregamos 1500 juguetes, y este año queremos regalar más y construir más sonrisas”, expresó Sofía, destacando la aspiración del equipo por ampliar su impacto positivo.
El transporte de los juguetes a las comunidades destinatarias se llevó a cabo mediante ambulancias aéreas (avionetas) proporcionadas por Medical Group, una empresa que ha respaldado la iniciativa durante varios años.
Sofía reflexionó sobre la disparidad impactante entre la realidad de estas comunidades y la suya propia, señalando: “Con este proyecto me di cuenta de que puedo hacer más por los demás. Hay gente muy necesitada en toda Colombia”.
La experiencia también dejó una huella profunda al evidenciar la juventud de algunas madres en Timbiquí, quienes, con apenas 13 años, acudían a solicitar regalos para sus hijos así como para ellas también. Una revelación impactante sobre las realidades que enfrentan estas comunidades.
Sofía y sus compañeros de CAS emergen de esta experiencia con un firme deseo de continuar ayudando a quienes más lo necesitan. “Invito a la comunidad CCB a que analicen su entorno y trabajen o ayuden a una causa social. Y en diciembre de 2024, sepan que aquí estaremos y nos pueden apoyar, mediante regalos, a seguir construyendo sonrisas”, dijo Sofía.
En conclusión, el CCB se enorgullece profundamente del compromiso y la iniciativa de estos estudiantes, quienes, a través de “Construyendo Sonrisas”, han dejado una marca perdurable de solidaridad y compasión en las vidas de aquellos menos afortunados. Su labor inspiradora nos impulsa a todos a reflexionar sobre el impacto positivo que podemos generar en nuestras comunidades.
