Nine of our students who qualified for the grand final of the ‘Mental Math World Cup 2024’ finished in the top five in the Master and Challenger categories in the national ranking.
In the Challenger category, our students were as follows:
- Nicolás Montoya Tamayo, third grade (second place)
- Nicolás Machuca Almansa,second grade (third place)
- Matías Guzman Gómez, third grade and Felipe Mondragón Chamat, third grade (fourth place)
In the Master category, our students who reached the podium were as follows:
- Gabriel Jiménez Marín, fourth grade (first place)
- Sara Triana Giraldo, sixth grade (second place)
- Cristóbal Ayala Muñoz, fifth grade (third place)
- Mariana Toro Muñoz, fifth grade (fourth place)
- Jacobo Robledo Gómez, sixth grade (fifth place)
This type of competition allows students to put into practice the knowledge acquired in class, reinforce their mental maths skills and see the potential they have if they are disciplined and set themselves a goal.
Although this competition was very popular with our students, it should be noted that “in Primary we give the greatest importance to mathematics as a subject where deep thinking is more important than speed. We don’t want children to think that good mathematicians are only those students who are fast at mental calculation,” mentioned our mathematics teacher Malgorzata Zarzycka.

Nueve de nuestros estudiantes que pasaron a la gran final del ‘Mental Math World Cup 2024’, quedaron en los cinco primeros puestos en las categorías de Master y Challenger, en el ranking a nivel nacional.
En la categoría Challenger nuestros estudiantes fueron los siguientes:
- Nicolás Montoya Tamayo grado tercero (segundo lugar)
- Nicolás Machuca Almansa grado segundo (tercer lugar)
- Matías Guzman Gómez grado tercero y Felipe Mondragón Chamat grado tercero (cuarto lugar)
En cuanto a la categoría Master, nuestros estudiantes que alcanzaron el podio fueron los siguientes:

Este tipo de competencias les permite a los estudiantes, poner en práctica los conocimientos adquiridos en clase, reforzar sus habilidades y ver el potencial que tienen si son disciplinados y se proponen un objetivo.
Aunque esta competencia tuvo una gran acogida por parte de nuestros estudiantes, hay que resaltar que “en Primaria damos la mayor importancia a matemáticas como una materia donde tiene más importancia el pensamiento profundo que la velocidad. No queremos que los niños piensen que los buenos en matemáticas son solamente los estudiantes que son veloces en cálculo mental”, mencionó nuestra profesora de matemáticas Malgorzata Zarzycka.
