From November 20 to 24, the XVII edition of the Senior AACBI Cup took place at the facilities of Colegio Gimnasio Norte (Bogotá), where our male and female students soccer teams achieved great results. CCB had a total delegation of 48 athletes and 4 coaches.
The A team of the male soccer team was crowned champion of the tournament with a score of 3-1 over Colegio Gimnasio Norte, with Juan Camilo Villadiego’s penalty defining the final result. The team, led by Jhonatan Ruíz, fulfilled its role as the favorite by remaining undefeated. Diego Bernal, Head of Extracurricular Activities, shared the teams’ performance with CCB News.
“The A male team showed defensive solidity thanks to the performance of their goalkeeper Paolo Mondragón, who not only received the award for the least beaten goal with only 3 goals against but also saved a total of 4 penalties in the tournament (2 in the penalty shootout in the quarterfinals against Tilatá, one in the group stage, and another during the match that defined the title).”
On the other hand, the efficiency of their offensive part allowed them to score 16 goals in 6 games played and Mario Casasfranco received the MVP (Most Valuable Player) award of the tournament.
“I am very happy to have received this award. We prepared a lot before the trip; we went very strong physically and mentally, and I feel that we did a good job there with the whole group. Each of us gave our best, and well, things worked out for me. I was able to score many goals and finish as the tournament’s top scorer and MVP,” expressed Mario Casasfranco, our 12th-grade student who scored 2 goals in the final, one in the quarterfinals, and two more in the group stage.
“Thanks to Professor Johnny, Professor Marlon, and Diego because without them, none of this would have been possible,” added Mario.
As for the B male soccer team, led by Marlon Morán, they achieved a commendable 9th place in the final ranking despite attending the event with several absences.
“Many of its members had the opportunity to experience an event of this magnitude at the senior level for the first time, and they were not beneath the challenge; they gave their all in each of the matches, and we are satisfied with their participation,” mentioned Diego.
The female soccer team, led by Carlos Ortíz, described their participation as “heroic.” Despite several absences, including their goalkeeper, they still managed to reach the tournament’s final. In the initial phase of the event, they earned 6 points, qualifying them as third in the group and facing The English School in the quarterfinals, an opponent who had been their nemesis in the previous year’s edition, coincidentally in the same stage.
“It’s the second year I’ve gone, and I thought it couldn’t get any better than last year. We were half the team, and we didn’t have a goalkeeper, so we had to figure out a lot of things, and it was complicated to organize ourselves at first, but let’s say that when we knew who could replace the goalkeeper, we were more organized. We played very well as a team, and being with them was great; I love those girls with my life,” commented Valeria Holguín Ramírez, our 12th-grade student who played her last AACBI Cup and is preparing for the third Friendship Cup.
The female team won with a 1-0 score and proceeded to play the semifinals against Marymount College, an opponent they had lost to in the first phase with a 0-5 score. This result instilled a spirit of overcoming within the team; with some changes in their structure, they achieved a well-deserved triumph with a 2-1 score, earning them a place in the grand final, which they contested against Anglo Colombiano. “The result was adverse with a 0-3 score. We settled for a dignified second place,” added Diego.

Del 20 al 24 de noviembre se llevó a cabo, en las instalaciones Colegio Gimnasio Norte (Bogotá), la XVII edición de la Copa AACBI de Mayores, en dónde nuestros estudiantes del equipo de fútbol masculino y femenino obtuvieron grandes resultados.
Con una delegación total de 48 deportistas y 4 entrenadores, el equipo A de fútbol masculino se consagró campeón del torneo, con un marcador de 3-1 sobre el Colegio Gimnasio Norte; siendo el penal de Juan Camilo Villadiego quién definió el resultado final.
El equipo a cargo de Jhonatan Ruíz, cumplió con su rol de favorito mostrandose invicto. Diego Bernal, jefe de extracurriculares contó a CCB News el desarrollo de los equipos: “El equipo A masculino mostró solidez defensiva a partir de la actuación de su arquero Paolo Mondragón, quién además de recibir el premio a la portería menos vencida, con sólo 3 anotaciones en contra, atajó un total de 4 penales en el torneo (2 en la definición por penales, en los cuartos de final ante Tilatá, uno en la fase de grupo y otro durante el partido que definió el título)”.
Por otro lado, la eficacia de su parte ofensiva logró anotar 16 goles en 6 partidos disputados y le permitió a Mario Casasfranco recibir el premio al MVP (Jugador Mejor Valorado) del torneo.
“Muy contento por haber recibido ese premio. Nos preparamos mucho antes del viaje íbamos con la mentalidad en alto, muy fuertes físicamente como mentalmente y siento que hicimos una buena actuación allá con todo el grupo. Cada uno de nosotros dio lo mejor y pues, se me dieron las cosas, pude marcar muchos goles y quedar como goleador y MVP del torneo”, expresó Mario Casasfranco, estudiante de grado 12, quien marcó 2 goles en la final, uno en cuartos y dos más en la fase de grupos.
“Gracias al profesor Johnny, al profesor Marlon y a Diego porque sin ellos no hubiera sido posible todo todo esto que logramos”, añadió Mario.
En cuanto al grupo fútbol masculino B, dirigido por Marlon Morán, lograron un meritorio 9no lugar en el ranking final, a pesar de asistir al evento con varias bajas. “Muchos de sus integrantes tenían la posibilidad de vivenciar por primera ocasión un evento de esta índole a nivel mayores, y no fueron menores ante el reto, dejaron todo en cada uno de los encuentros y nos llena de satisfacción su participación”, mencionó Diego.
El grupo de fútbol femenino, comandado por Carlos Ortíz, definió su participación como “heróica”, dentro de sus bajas para asistir al evento estaba la de su arquera, pero aún así lograron llegar a la final del torneo. En la fase inicial del evento lograron conseguir 6 puntos, que las clasificó como terceras del grupo y las enfrentó ante The English School, en la fase de cuartos de final, oponente que había sido su verdugo en la edición del año anterior, casualmente, en la misma fase.
“Es el segundo año que voy y yo pensaba que no se podía poner más chévere que el año pasado. Fuimos la mitad del equipo y no teníamos arquera, entonces, nos tocó resolver un resto de cosas y pues fue complicado organizarnos al principio, pero digamos que ya cuando sabíamos quién podía reemplazar a la arquera, ya estuvimos más organizadas. Jugamos muy bien en equipo y pues estar con ellas me encantó, amo a esas niñas con mi vida”, comentó Valeria Holguín Ramírez, estudiante de grado 12, quien jugó su última Copa AACBI y se prepara para la tercera Copa de la Amistad.
El equipo femenino se alzó con la victoria con un 1-0 y se dispuso a jugar las semifinales ante el colegio Marymount, oponente con el que perdieron en la primera fase con un 0-5. Este resultado generó en el equipo un espíritu de superación, a partir de algunos movimientos dentro de su estructura lograron un merecido triunfo por 2-1, dándonos el paso a la gran final, la cual disputaron ante el Anglo Colombiano. “El resultado fue adverso con un 0-3. Nos quedamos con un digno segundo lugar”, añadió Diego.
Han sido 4 días de convivencia con cada uno de los deportistas, donde las risas, lágrimas y amor por los colores del CCB, han dejado huella en cada uno de los integrantes de la delegación.
