On September 11th, a group of 9 CCB Theater students performed at the Municipal Theater Enrique Buenaventura after being selected among the 15 finalists of the Intercollegiate Theater Festival. They were chosen from more than 350 representative acts from all schools in Cali. The students who shone on stage are: Antonio Bryon, Juan Sebastián Gallo, Juan Miguel Olave, Felipe Pimiento, Alejandro Erazo, Juan Felipe Restrepo, Julián Holguín, Diego Javier Bautista, Paolo Mondragón.
Drama Teacher, Alex Marulanda, told us that this year there was a great interest in exploring new forms of theater, and they considered black light theater as a good option for the festival. “They were very motivated doing black light theater, working with fluorescent figures and neon lights. We developed an exercise in class that we found very attractive, so since last year we had participated with a monologue, this time around we wanted to participate with a group theater production,” he said.
The first phase involved creating a video of the play, which was then evaluated by three expert judges, and among all educational institutions in Cali, 15 finalists were chosen, including collective theater groups, monologues, performing arts, and dance.
The students took on this commitment with great responsibility. They experienced what performing in a large theater with an audience felt like. They felt scared at first, but the importance of showcasing their performance encouraged them to give their best.
The judges praised their proposal, as black light theater tends to have a higher level of difficulty due to the conditions and handling it requires. They felt very proud and pleased with the judges’ feedback. “The experience was wonderful for the kids; they directed themselves very well and now they want to repeat next year. Based on a class exercise that we worked on very well, we decided to participate, and it was our first time. The judges also appreciated that this was their first live performance since they hadn’t performed at a school or anywhere else before. So that was very commendable and it made them very happy,” he added.
Alex recognized the talent within CCB and left a message for the student community: “In the school, there is the opportunity for the kids, not only to do theater but also visual arts, music, be in bands, and the level is very high. We feel that there is a lot of talent here, and we need to continue supporting them.”

El 11 de septiembre, un grupo de 9 estudiantes de Teatro CCB se presentaron en el Teatro Municipal Enrique Buenaventura tras ser seleccionados entre los 15 finalistas del Festival Intercolegiado de Teatro. Fueron escogidos entre más de 350 actos representativos de todos los colegios de Cali. Los estudiantes que brillaron en las tablas son: Antonio Bryon, Juan Sebastián Gallo, Juan Miguel Olave, Felipe Pimiento, Alejandro Erazo, Juan Felipe Restrepo, Julián Holguín, Diego Javier Bautista, Paolo Mondragón.
El profesor Alex Marulanda nos contó que para este año hubo un gran interés de explorar nuevas formas de teatro y consideraron que el teatro negro era una buena opción para presentarse en el festival. “Ellos se motivaron mucho haciendo teatro negro, trabajando con figuras florescentes y con la luz neón. Desarrollamos un ejercicio en clase que nos pareció muy atractivo, entonces como el año pasado habíamos participado con un monólogo, hoy quisimos participar con una apuesta teatral grupal”, mencionó.
La primera fase consistía en hacer un video de la obra de teatro, luego era evaluado por tres jurados expertos y entre todas las instituciones educativas de Cali se escogían 15 finalistas repartidos entre grupos de teatro colectivo, monólogos, artes escénicas y danza.
Los estudiantes asumieron este compromiso con mucha responsabilidad. Vivieron la experiencia de enfrentarse a un teatro grande con público, manifiestaron haberse sentido asustados en un comienzo, pero la fascinación de poder demostrar su puesta en escena les animó a dar lo mejor.
El jurado resaltó su propuesta, pues el teatro negro tiende a tener un nivel de dificultad mayor por las condiciones y manejo que requiere. Ellos se sintieron muy orgullosos y contentos con la retroalimentación de los jurados. “La experiencia fue maravillosa para los muchachos, se dirigieron muy bien y quieren repetir el próximo año. Nosotros a raíz de un ejercicio de clase que trabajamos súper bien decidímos presentarnos y era la primera vez. El jurado también valoró que su primera función fuera justamente después de haber sido seleccionados, ya que todavía no se habían presentado en un colegio, ni en ninguna otra parte, sino allí frente al jurado, entonces muy meritorio, eso los hizo muy felices”, añadió.
Finalmente, el profesor Alex reconoció el talento que hay en el CCB y dejó un mensaje a la comunidad estudiantil: “En el colegio existe la posibilidad de que los chicos no solamente hagan teatro, sino que también hagan artes visuales, música, estén en bandas, y el nivel es muy alto. Sentimos que aquí hay mucho talento y hay que seguir apoyándolos”.
