So far in 2025, our Primary (grades 2-5) and Secondary (grade 8) students have packed their rucksacks full of curiosity and embarked on new adventures. The outdoor learning trips of our Experiential Education programme, “GoBeyond – Step Into the Unknown”, took them to visit different nature reserves such as Parque de las Garzas in Cali, Nirvana Reserve in Buga, Yotoco Reserve, the Coffee Region and the Chicamocha Canyon.
First Night Away from Home
The second-grade students not only went to Parque de las Garzas but also camped at the school, which allowed them to experience a unique and exciting adventure. Despite the uncertainty of not sleeping at home, the joy and adventure that the trip promised would turn those nerves into laughter and fun.
“When the trip began, I was a little nervous because I wasn’t going to be with my parents at night, but I told my friends and they told me to be calm and the truth is that I felt super good,” commented Camilo Chamat from grade 2.
At the end of the night, everyone felt closer, putting up their tents, sharing stories and laughter.
Climbing New Adventures in Nirvana, Buga
During their stay in Nirvana, the students participated in various activities and hikes to connect with nature and foster their knowledge of the environment, local fauna and flora.
For Juan Jose Díaz of grade 3, his experience was unforgettable: “When we went to Nirvana, we climbed a mountain and I had a great time. These outings are very cool for learning and having fun,” he said.
Each step became a challenge, allowing them to overcome their limits and experience new activities. Climbing not only encourages physical activity but also cultivates resilience and an adventurous spirit in those who dare to conquer new heights.
The Magic of the Unknown in Yotoco
Exploring new things is one of the most enriching experiences young adventurers can have. The 4th-grade students visited the Yotoco Reserve, where they went on various hikes with the aim of understanding the importance of places for the conservation and protection of nature.
Each discovery opens up a world of possibilities and wonder. Sofía Erazo expressed her excitement at seeing a pig for the first time in Yotoco: “I did many new things, touched strange things and saw animals I had never seen before,”. Each adventure left its mark.
This connection with nature allowed them to expand their knowledge, learn new things and value the resources that surround us.
Wisdom and Adventure in the Coffee Region
The fifth-grade students ventured into the Coffee Region, a destination famous for its rich coffee heritage. The four-day trip included a night hike through the forest, a trip to Salento, Cocora Valley and a tour of RECUCA: Coffee Culture Tour.
“The truth is that I had never been away from my parents for so long and I liked it because I felt that I could be a little more independent and I felt very good. I liked it a lot and the truth is that I would do it again,” said Paolo Colavizza (5th C).
Without a doubt, the trip was a particularly significant experience because it was the first time they had travelled alone. This gave them a sense of autonomy and responsibility.
The Natural Beauty
On the other hand, from 27th to 31st January, 40 eighth-grade students were on a trip through Bogotá, Boyacá and Santander. They mainly explored Chicamocha National Park and the Canyon.
“Connecting with our roots, the challenge of conquering the Canyon, the immensity and majesty of nature was what this experience meant to me,” commented Liliana Lenis Navia, Deputy Head of the Secondary Section.
The challenge of crossing the Canyon was a real test of endurance and adventurous spirit.
For Sebastián Robayo, his experience was spectacular: “I injured my ankle going down the Canyon and I couldn’t climb it, but the experience was wonderful. I saw the mountains which were very beautiful; it looked like a film landscape.”
The true essence of adventure lies in connecting with the environment and appreciating moments, regardless of obstacles. Going beyond your comfort zone and achieving beyond expectations.
These trips offered exciting adventures, new knowledge and life lessons that left their mark on the students. Undoubtedly, each experience taught them something valuable that will help them face the challenges of the future with courage and curiosity.
Outdoor learning is a fundamental tool for personal and social growth at all stages of education.

En lo corrido de 2025, nuestros estudiantes de Primaria (grados 2° – 5°) y Bachillerato (8°) alistaron sus mochilas llenas de curiosidad y emprendieron nuevas aventuras. Las salidas de aprendizaje al aire libre de nuestro programa de Educación Experiencial, “GoBeyond-Step Into the Unknown”, los llevaron a visitar diferentes reservas naturales como el Parque de las Garzas en Cali, la Reserva Nirvana en Buga, Reserva Yotoco, El Eje Cafetero y el Cañón de Chicamocha.
Primera noche fuera de casa
Los estudiantes de grado segundo, no solo fueron al Parque de las Garzas, sino que también acamparon en el colegio, lo que les permitió vivir una aventura única y emocionante. A pesar de la incertidumbre que los acompañaba por no dormir en sus casas, la alegría y la aventura que prometía el paseo convertirían esos nervios en risas y diversión.
“Cuando comenzó el viaje, estaba un poquito nervioso porque no iba a estar en la noche con mis papás, pero le dije a mis amigos y ellos me dijeron que estuviera tranquilo y la verdad me sentí súper bien”, comentó Camilo Chamat de grado 2C.
Al final de la noche, todos se sintieron más unidos, armando sus carpas, compartiendo historias y risas.
Escalando nuevas aventuras en Nirvana, Buga
En el transcurso de su estancia en Nirvana, los alumnos participaron en diversas actividades y caminatas para conectar con la naturaleza y fomentar su conocimiento sobre el medio ambiente, la fauna y la flora local.
Para Juan Jose Díaz de grado 3E su experiencia fue inolvidable, “Cuando fuimos a Nirvana, escalamos una montaña y la pasé muy bien. Estas salidas son muy chéveres para aprender y divertirse”, puntualizó.
Cada paso se convirtió en un reto, permitiéndoles superar sus límites y experimentar nuevas actividades. La escalada no solo fomenta la actividad física, también cultiva la resiliencia y el espíritu aventurero de quienes se atreven a conquistar nuevas alturas.
La magia de lo desconocido en Yotoco
La exploración de las cosas nuevas es una de las experiencias más enriquecedoras que pueden vivir los jóvenes aventureros. Los estudiantes de grado 4º visitaron la Reserva Yotoco, donde realizaron diversas caminatas con el objetivo de entender la importancia de lugares de conservación y protección de la naturaleza.
Cada descubrimiento abre un mundo de posibilidades y asombro. Sofía Erazo de 4B expresó su emoción al ver un cerdo por primera vez en Yotoco: “Hice muchas cosas nuevas, toque cosas raras y vi animales que nunca había visto”, cada aventura dejó una huella.
Esta conexión con la naturaleza les permitió ampliar sus conocimientos, conocer nuevas cosas y valorar los recursos que nos rodean.
Sabiduría y aventura en la tierra del café
Los estudiantes de quinto grado se aventuraron en el Eje Cafetero, un destino famoso por su rica herencia cafetera. El viaje de cuatro días incluyó caminata nocturna por el bosque, salida a Salento, Valle del Cocora y recorrido por RECUCA: Recorrido de la Cultura del Café.
“La verdad nunca había estado lejos de mis papás por tanto tiempo y me gustó porque sentí que pude ser un poquito más independiente y me sentí muy bien. Me gustó mucho y la verdad lo volvería a hacer”, mencionó Paolo Colavizza (5ºC).
Sin duda, la salida fue una experiencia especialmente singnificante, porque fue la primera vez que viajaron solos. Esto les brindó una sensación de autonomía y responsabilidad.
La belleza natural
Por otro lado, del 27 al 31 de enero, 40 estudiantes de grado octavo estuvieron de viaje por Bogotá, Boyacá y Santander. Principalmente, exploraron el Parque Nacional del Chicamocha y el Cañón.
“Conectar con nuestras raíces, el reto de conquistar el Cañón, la inmensidad y la majestuosidad de la naturaleza fue lo que significó esta experiencia para mí”, comentó Liliana Lenis Navia, Deputy Head de la sección de Bachillerato.
El reto de atravesar el Cañón fue un verdadero desafío que puso a prueba la resistencia y el espíritu aventurero.
Para Sebastian Robayo de 8ºC, su experiencia fue espectacular: “Yo me lastimé el tobillo bajando del Cañón y no lo pude subir, pero la experiencia fue maravillosa. Conocí las montañas que estaban muy bonitas; parecía un paisaje de película”.
La verdadera esencia de la aventura radica en la conexión con el entorno y en apreciar momentos, sin importar los obstáculos. Salir de nuestra zona de confort y alcanzar logros más allá de nuestras expectativas.
Estos viajes ofrecieron aventuras emocionantes, nuevos conocimientos y lecciones de vida que marcaron a los estudiantes. Indudablemente, cada experiencia les enseñó algo valioso que les servirá para enfrentar los retos del futuro con valentía y curiosidad.
El aprendizaje al aire libre es una herramienta fundamental para el crecimiento personal y social en todas las etapas educativas.
