The transition to the International Baccalaureate Programme is an exciting challenge for any student. The IB is a globally recognized educational program that fosters critical thinking, creativity and intercultural understanding. It includes a wide range of subjects, an extensive workload, and several requirements that students must meet.
The transition process involved:
- Subject Selection: the IB allows students to choose subjects from six different groups, including Math, Science, Humanities, Art, and more. I chose subjects I am passionate about that align with my future goals.
- Workload: One of the biggest challenges was adapting to the significantly more intense IB workload. Learning how to manage time and maintain a balance between academic tasks and extracurricular activities was critical.
- Critical Thinking: The IB emphasizes critical thinking and analysis. I learned to question, research and argue more deeply and thoughtfully in my papers and class discussions.
- Creative Projects: The CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) component led me to get involved in community projects, sports activities and creative projects, which broadened my horizon beyond the purely academic.
Biology is one of the subjects I have enjoyed the most in IB. The concepts and content are exciting, and the focus on research and application of knowledge has allowed me to explore my interest in science more deeply. The Philosophy course has profoundly challenged my thinking. Exploring fundamental philosophical questions and discussing them has developed my ability to reason, argue, and view the world from diverse perspectives. Philosophy has made me more aware of the importance of questioning and reflecting.
The IB has challenged me academically like never before. The subjects are rigorous and require a constant level of commitment and study. Learning to manage my time efficiently has been essential. One of the highlights is the way the subjects are interconnected. I have begun to see how concepts in Math, Science, and Humanities intertwine and complement each other, which has broadened my understanding of the world.
I cannot deny that these first few months in the IB have been demanding. The workload is intense and the pressure is real. However, these challenges have taught me some valuable lessons. Despite the difficulties, I am excited for what the future holds and I am ready to continue learning and advancing in this program.

La transición al Programa del Bachillerato Internacional es un desafío emocionante para cualquier estudiante. El IB es un programa educativo reconocido a nivel mundial que busca fomentar el pensamiento crítico, la creatividad y la comprensión intercultural. Incluye una amplia gama de materias, una amplia carga de trabajo y una serie de requisitos que los estudiantes deben cumplir.
El proceso de transición implicó:
- Selección de Materias: El IB permite a los estudiantes elegir asignaturas de seis grupos diferentes, incluyendo Matemáticas, Ciencias, Humanidades, Arte y más. Elegí asignaturas que me apasionan y que se alinean con mis metas futuras.
- Carga de Trabajo: Uno de los mayores desafíos fue adaptarme a la carga de trabajo significativamente más intensa del IB. Aprender a gestionar el tiempo y mantener un equilibrio entre las tareas académicas y actividades extracurriculares fue fundamental.
- Pensamiento Crítico: El IB enfatiza el pensamiento crítico y el análisis. Aprendí a cuestionar, investigar y argumentar de manera más profunda y reflexiva en mis trabajos y discusiones en clase.
- Proyectos Creativos: El componente CAS (Creatividad, Actividad y Servicio) me llevó a involucrarme en proyectos comunitarios, actividades deportivas y proyectos creativos, lo que amplió mi horizonte más allá de lo puramente académico.
Biología es una de las asignaturas que más he disfrutado en el IB. Los conceptos y contenidos son apasionantes, y el enfoque en la investigación y la aplicación del conocimiento me ha permitido explorar mi interés en la ciencia de manera más profunda. La asignatura de Filosofía ha desafiado mi pensamiento de manera profunda. Explorar cuestiones filosóficas fundamentales y debatir sobre ellas ha desarrollado mi capacidad para razonar, argumentar y ver el mundo desde perspectivas diversas. La filosofía me ha hecho más consciente de la importancia de cuestionar y reflexionar.
El IB me ha desafiado académicamente como nunca antes. Las asignaturas son rigurosas y requieren un nivel de compromiso y estudio constante. Aprender a administrar mi tiempo de manera eficiente ha sido esencial. Uno de los aspectos más destacados es la forma en que las asignaturas están interconectadas. He comenzado a ver cómo los conceptos en Matemáticas, Ciencias y Humanidades se entrelazan y complementan, lo que ha ampliado mi comprensión del mundo.
No puedo negar que estos primeros meses en el IB han sido exigentes. La carga de trabajo es intensa y la presión es real. Sin embargo, estos desafíos me han enseñado algunas lecciones valiosas. A pesar de las dificultades, estoy emocionada por lo que me espera en el futuro y estoy dispuesta a seguir aprendiendo y avanzando en este programa.
